What is Armed Forces Day?

Armed Forces Day is a national event which takes place on the last Saturday of June, falling this year on 28 June.

It is a chance to show your support for the people who make up the Armed Forces community: from currently serving personnel to Service families, veterans and cadets.

It also marks the culmination of a week of celebrations, beginning on Monday 23 June, when the public show their support and appreciation for the Armed Forces community.

It includes Reserves Day (this year on 25 June), which provides the country with an opportunity to recognise our Reserve Forces.

Celebrations will take place across the UK, with military displays, parades, and entertainment in more than 100 locations.

As a charity which cares for veterans and their families, Armed Forces Day is an important date in the Care for Veterans calendar.

Some residents in our Homes are presented with a veterans badge (right).

Events and activities take place in our Homes to mark Armed Forces Day – including live music, arts and crafts activities and outings.

The UK first celebrated a ‘Veterans’ Day’ in 2006. In 2009 this was renamed to ‘Armed Forces Day’ and it became a wider celebration of all of our Armed Forces community.

It is a perfect way that we, as a nation, can remind our Armed Forces community that we are proud of their work, integrity and sacrifices.
