Group Captain Jon Whitworth is currently serving in the Royal Air Force as the Head of Defence Airspace and Air Traffic Management, working alongside the UK Civil Aviation Authority at its Headquarters near Gatwick Airport.
Commissioned into the RAF as an air traffic control specialist in 1989 he has operated globally in that role, with tours of duty in Europe, the Balkans, Falkland’s and the Middle East. He has undertaken multiple operational tours both with UK and Allied forces and has commanded at all levels including RAF (Unit) Swanwick in Hampshire.
Jon has is also an expert operational and strategic planner with considerable experience planning military missions with UK, American and NATO forces. Most recently he was part of the NATO team planning the Alliance response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
An avid supporter of military and veteran charities he joined the Care for Veterans Board in 2024.
