BFBS Big Salute fundraising gives a boost to military charities

Seven military charities that support the Armed Forces community are to benefit from thousands of pounds raised by the BFBS Big Salute.

Military charity BFBS is a broadcaster that offers entertainment, Forces News, sport and information services to the Armed Forces, their families and veterans worldwide.

Care for Veterans is one such fortunate beneficiary of BFBS’s generosity. To fund a special project, A Big Salute grant from BFBS of £10,000 has been awarded to help meet the cost of converting one twin room to form two single rooms, thereby improving residents’ capacity and privacy while increasing fee income.

Trusts and Foundations Officer Mark Anderson shared, “This is a project to convert double bedrooms into single bedrooms, where [residents] can put their medals on the wall, put their photographs on the wall, have a bit privacy, listen to the music they want to listen to and have their own facilities. So it’s quite a few important wins really – the veterans are happier, we are safer from a covid-19 perspective and our income more sustainable”.

“This is brilliant news for our veterans and their families. The generosity of BFBS will have supported generations of veterans to come. We really cannot thank them enough.” – Christine Gillott, Head of Fundraising and Marketing

Nicky Ness, BFBS’ Director of Broadcasting and Entertainment, said: “BFBS is delighted to be able to support these very worthy organisations.”

Nicky Ness added: “It’s wonderful to see such an array of projects and the different ways each charity is planning to spend the money to support our military community.”

To raise much-needed money for a range of Armed Forces charities and build morale among the military community overseas, BFBS staff and audiences take part in fundraising events every year. To find out more about BFBS, click here.
