Veterans from Care for Veterans – a Royal Star & Garter Home have marked Remembrance.
Residents from the Home in Worthing attended the National Service of Remembrance and marched past The Cenotaph on Remembrance Sunday 9 November. The Home then held its own service on Armistice Day on Tuesday 11 November.
The Home provides long-term nursing, rehabilitation, respite and end-of-life care to veterans and their families who live with disabilities, including acquired brain injury and degenerative neurological conditions. It is now part of the Royal Star & Garter group, following a merger with the charity earlier this year.
Care for Veterans hosted several events in the run-up to Remembrance, including poppy-based arts and crafts activities.
The two-minute silence held during the service started and ended with the ringing of the bell from HMS Fearless, which was presented to the Home over 50 years ago. The service was led by Father George Butler, who also read the names of residents from Care for Veterans who had died in the past year.
The Home is welcoming new residents. For more information on this and other ways to fundraise and support, please go to www.careforveterans.org.uk
